Red Leaf Takoja: Echoes of the Universe 88-0301

Original and rearranged contemporary dance music. An historical slice of Takoja songs from the twelve year period 1975-1987, this musical collection utilizes the singing talents of Donna and Michelle Concha, Alice Martinez and Margaret Tyon in addition to the group. A collection of 10 songs. Lakota words to each song, with English translations, on the insert. Extended play.

RED LEAF TAKOJA formerly of Denver, Colorado, now based in Toas, New Mexico, are Indian singers composed of family and friends from South Dakota, Oklahoma, Taos and the Taos Pueblo. Known nationally for melodic compositions of traditional and contemporary Indian dance music, this recording represents a slice of Takoja music spanning a ten year period from 1975 – 1985.

In early 1985, at a ceremony conducted by Mr. Leonard Crow Dog and held for the Denver Indian Health Board, it was stated that members of Takoja who sang for the ceremony, when they sang from the heart, where echoes from the universe. The songs sung on this recording were sung from the heart.
